(VERY) Quick Picks
Posted by Walter
To the loyal 323 readers I apologize, but the law firm I work for has been very busy lately with several cases going to trial and I just could not find the time to devote to my picks this week. So here they are, my very quick picks.
LSU -2 over @ Tennessee
The bottom line in this game is that the LSU defense is just way too physical for the TN offense to handle. Look for Ainge to get hit and make some key mistakes that doom the Vols. The apocalypse is coming for this Vols team that has, to some degree, overachieved all season. LSU takes it 17-10.
@ Houston +4.5 over Tulsa
Let's be clear, I am President of the Steve Kragthorpe fan club, so before anyone cries fraud I do believe that Tulsa will win this game. That said, the Houston offense and Kevin Kolb are just too good not to put up some serious points in this game. The last time Tulsa faced a passing offense this diverse and talented they gave up almost 500 yards and 4 TD to BYU. Tulsa is the better overall team and they win it, but its close. Call it 34-33.
BC -4 over @ Wake Forest
This will really test the Eagles' mettle since they have won a lot of games this year by simply waiting for their opponent to make a mistake and then capitalizing. Wake doesn't really make mistakes so the Eagles are going to need someone to step up on offense and dominate. Just a guess, but I have a feeling that LV Whitworth has a huge game on Saturday in leading the Eagles to a hard fought victory. Plus, BC always has the most underrated college quarterback in quite some time to fall back on: Matt Ryan. Call it BC 24-17.
Missouri +6 over @ Nebraska
Ugh, why do I keep picking Gary Pinkel and Missouri? Perhaps because this week they play against Bill Callahan and Nebraska. Well if nothing else I am consistent. Here's to not learning from my mistakes. Let's say Mizzou takes it 21-20.
Oklahoma State +16.5 over @ Texas
This is simple: The Cowboys have a hugely explosive offense, especially in the passing game. The Longhorns have been thoroughly unable to stop the pass all season. Look for Oklahoma State to put up a ton of points in a losing effort. Also, this spread is way too high and definitely susceptible to a garbage time touchdown for the cover. In fact, that's what will happen. Texas wins 40-27.
@ South Carolina +2 over Arkansas
The Gamecocks are almost there. Syvelle Newton has looked better each week and this team just has that feel about it that they are ready for a big win. Arkansas is young, and taking nothing away from them, probably not as good as their record. Oh and let's not forget that the Spurrier-Nutt matchup is a joke on paper. Call it South Carolina in a minor upset, 23-20.
VTech -2.5 over @ Miami
The Hurricanes stink, they can't protect their quarterback, and they can't score on offense. The Hokies are physical on defense and they can rush the passer. Expect several turnovers from Kyle Wright and one of two big plays from the Hokie offense/special teams. Oh, also...Miami has quit on their coach. Not a good time. Tech wins it 24-10.
Oklahoma -3 @ Texas A & M
This would be a HUGE win for Dennis Franchione and the Aggies. And that's why I am picking against them. A & M always has chances like this to enter the nation's elite and they always blow it. Seriously, take it to the bank. The Sooners roll 30-20.
